Hot Takes Accra: A Night of Controversial Opinions, Bribes & Good Vibes
If you weren’t at Hot Takes Accra, honestly… what were you doing? Picture a room full of amazing people, controversial opinions flying left, right, and center, chocolate bribes, and non-stop laughter at Accra Art District.
If you weren’t at Hot Takes, honestly… what were you doing?
Hot Takes was one of those Accra events you really had to be at.
Picture this: a room full of amazing people, controversial opinions flying left, right, and center, attendees being bribed with chocolate, and enough laughter to carry us through the night. That was Hot Takes, a presentation night that brought together some of Ghana’s most entertaining personalities for one very important purpose: to say the things everyone else was too scared to say.
Hosted at the Accra Art District, the night featured presentations from Nubuke, Fahim, Ama Burland, Djifa, Mansa, and Zuu, each bringing their own unique and sometimes questionable takes to the table.
And of course, this wasn’t just any event. It was a star-studded affair. Our ever-beautiful Efia Odo was in attendance, alongside Mawuli Gavor and everyone’s favorite influencer, Fynnba. The room was packed with familiar faces, and the energy was immaculate from the moment guests started arriving in their Bolts.
Zuu: As a Man… As a Woman
Podcast host and influencer Zuu kicked off the presentations with a two-part presentation titled “As a Man” and “As a Woman.”
Zuu came prepared with a list of things he believes men and women simply should not be doing.
His very first point?
“As a man, why are you using filters?”
We’ve all thought it. Zuu was simply brave enough to say it.
But then he took things a little too far.
“As a man, why are you using Google Maps?”
Zuu, please. We need answers. Do you want men to end up in the middle of the ocean?!
There were plenty more questionable takes throughout the presentation, but we’ll let you decide for yourselves whether Zuu was onto something or just choosing violence.
Djifa: Love Is Sweet… When Money Enter, Love Is Sweeter
Next up was the beautiful Djifa.
And honestly? We were a little distracted by her glowing skin throughout the entire presentation. But we listened. We promise. (We heard that she uses R&R skincare 😉)
In the words of Davido, “love is sweet o, when money enter love is sweeter.”
And that was essentially the argument behind Djifa’s presentation.
Djifa argued that if men are allowed to date women based on their looks, then women should be allowed to date men based on their money.
And you know what? We hear it. Fair is fair.
Fahim: Free Form Locs Are Superior
Artist behind the hit song “Asana,” Fahim, took on one of the most important debates of our generation:
Why free-form locs are the superior kind of locs.
Fahim argued that free-form locs are unique, make you look like you have a story to tell, and, most importantly, make you original.
All very good points.
However, we do have one question.
Why were you bribing attendees with Fairafric chocolate?
Fahim was spotted handing out chocolate to attendees in an attempt to convince them to take his side.
We’re not saying his argument was wrong, but when you have to bring out the best chocolate in the world to win a debate… that says a lot.
Fahim, we’re looking at you.

Mansa: Why If You Don’t Like Plantain, You’re a Witch
As a certified plantain lover, Mansa’s presentation was easily one of our favorites.
The title?
“Why If You Don’t like plantain, you’re a Witch.”
Honestly, the title speaks for itself.
Mansa took us through several key moments in history and explained the important role plantain has played in getting humanity to where we are today.
And apparently, plantain’s influence on Ghanaian history goes even deeper than we thought.
Did you know that without plantain, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah would not have been able to get Ghana's independence?!
Neither did we.
But after that presentation, we have decided that plantain deserves a national holiday.
What a superior meal.
Ama Burland: Monogamy… Ruining Women’s Fun?
Serial entrepreneur, host, YouTuber, influencer, and perfume enthusiast Ama Burland was also in the building.
And let us tell you something: we could smell her from the entrance. The rumors are true. Ama smells AMAZING.
But she wasn’t at Hot Takes just to smell good.
Her presentation was titled:
“Monogamy: Yet Another Thing a Jealous Selfish Man Invented to Ruin Women’s Fun.”
WHEW.
Ama spoke about how men created monogamy just to end up living polygamous lives and how accepting society is of men’s polygamous lifestyles! I know I heard someone scream, “Preach, queen!” all the way from Kumasi.
Ama came to shake all the right tables.
There were laughs, shocked faces, and definitely some people reconsidering their life choices. It was exactly the kind of take we came to Hot Takes for.
Nubuke: Men Are Trash… According to Men?
And then came the woman of the night.
Our ever-gracious host.
The funniest.
The prettiest.
The woman who made this entire wonderful night at Accra Art District possible.
Nubuke.
Nubuke opened her presentation by exploring how the phrase “Men are trash” became so popular and eventually entered everyday conversation.
She then gave us her tips for navigating life while trying not to be bothered by men.
One strategy? Walking around with a mean mug to appear completely unapproachable.
Another? Wearing a wedding ring on her ring finger to test whether men would stop approaching her.
We’re not sure whether the experiment worked, but we respect the dedication.
But then Nubuke dropped the line that had the entire room gasping.
Her presentation, she explained, wasn’t about why women think men are trash.
It was about why men think men are trash.
The crowd let out a loud, audible gasp. You honestly had to be there.
And somehow, the presentation felt like the perfect presentation for the host herself. Nubuke understood the assignment.
A Night to Remember
Hot Takes was truly a night to remember.

Then came the after-party.
And honestly? Top two moments of the night.
Hosted by Sauna, the after-party had Don Nortey playing jams back-to-back-to-back, with the crowd completely turnt. The energy was so good that nobody wanted to leave.
Actually, we’re pretty sure some people are still there.
